A compact code for a precise area
Plus Codes, also called Open Location Codes, encode latitude and longitude into a human-readable location code. Alkax uses a Plus Code as the geographic anchor beneath a richer place record.
What the code provides
- a standard way to represent an area without requiring a street address;
- text that can be copied, printed, spoken, or embedded in a QR code;
- interoperability with other systems that understand Open Location Codes.
What the Alkax place adds
A Plus Code does not tell a visitor which shop, floor, household, gate, or entrance is intended. Alkax layers the missing context on top:
- place name and category;
- locality and settlement;
- landmarks and description;
- building, floor, and unit;
- photos;
- trust and ownership signals;
- a stable place ID and shareable experience.
Full and shortened codes
A full Plus Code can be resolved without locality context. A shortened code depends on a nearby reference area. When sharing a short code, include the locality or share the Alkax place link to reduce ambiguity.
